Foods That Can Cause Breakouts & Make Acne Worse

by Christine Glasgow @

Foods That Cause Acne – Is the Connection Between Food and Bad Skin for Real?

There is, researchers agree, a proven link between a poor diet and poor skin, including acne. Heated arguments continue to rage however over whether certain specific foods are acne triggers or not.

Some of the foods that were once thought to be absolute no no’s for those with acne prone skin- chocolate springs to mind immediately – are proving not to be quite the acne triggers they were once thought to be, although chocolate is not quite in the clear as an acne trigger, but we’ll discuss that in a little while.

Why Can’t Scientists Agree on Acne Causing Foods?

Science has made amazing, huge strides over the last 100 years. And yet some of the simplest questions posed to it have yet to be answered. Questions like what foods really are acne triggers.

The problem is that for something to be considered scientifically proven years and years of different, credible research must be conducted, and then those studies have to be followed up and peer reviewed. All of this takes time and effort and a lot of discussion. Sure, you may see an article claiming that a certain study has found that X food is bad don’t take it as ‘gospel’, as the chances are that it was a small study conducted over a short period of time on a tiny group of people. In other words, its possibly a good start but lots more work needs to be done.

There is however some agreement about certain foods and food types that researchers are beginning to think it’s fairly safe to assume really are things that those with acne prone skin should think twice about before they add them to the menu. Let’s have a look at some of them and be warned, some of these will probably really surprise you!

Rice Cakes

Rice cakes are super healthy surely? You’ll often find them in the ‘healthy food’ sections of the grocery store and hey, don’t supermodels practically live on them? Yes, on all counts, for the most part, but if you have acne prone skin they may not be such a great addition to your diet.

That’s because, several studies have found, the large number of simple carbs they contain are metabolized by the body in such a way that collagen is damaged in the process, potentially leading to worsened acne scars, a lack of skin elasticity, an increase in the time an acne pimple will take to heal and yes, even those nasty fine lines and wrinkles you hate every but as much as pimples.

Hard and Gummy Candies

Some acne sufferers avoid chocolate because they fear it might trigger an acne outbreak, so they indulge their sweet tooth with hard and gummy candies instead. The fact is though that as delicious as they are these little treats are loaded with sugar, and it’s the not very healthy at all refined sugar most of the time.

The links between excessive consumption of refined sugars and [...]

Best Face Washes & Cleansers For Acne Prone Skin

by Christine Glasgow @

Finding the Best Acne Face Wash for Your Unique Skin

For those who deal with the everyday problem – and pain in the you know what – that is acne prone facial skin, there are certain things that are a given. One of the most important is that the skin care routine they follow is one that will help improve, and hopefully combat, their pimple problem rather than make it worse.

The very beginning of any such routine is squeaky clean skin. Dirt is always an enemy of acne prone skin and no matter what products, potions, home remedies and tricks you might try to battle facial acne the instructions for use always begin the same way; cleanse the skin thoroughly. Therefore, choosing the acne cleanser that is most effective – and effective for use on your unique skin, not someone else’s – is a must.

Why Use a Specialist Acne Facial Cleanser at All?

Before we start looking at products let’s examine a simpler issue; why bother with a specialist acne cleanser in the first place, especially if you are going to make use of other products?

The simple fact is that a standard soap based cleanser is rarely very kind to acne prone skin. Soap is rather drying, something that sounds like a good thing at first. After all, oil is something that causes and aggravates acne, so if your skin is a little dry that means that all that nasty sebum is gone, right?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. The oil is gone temporarily, for a few hours at most. It is then the skin’s natural reaction to try to re-hydrate itself, mainly by producing even more oil than it normally does, something that acne prone skin certainly doesn’t need! In addition, many standard cleansers have a PH that is a little too alkaline for acne prone skin, resulting in dry patches, redness and irritation.

Acne facial cleansers are designed to be safe and gentle for acne prone skin. Some offer extra medicated help as well, while others are all about giving you that clean base you need before starting other treatments.

Breaking Down the Best Acne Face Wash Choices

There really is no such thing as a perfect acne face wash. Different skin types, different skin ages and occasionally even different genders react differently to even a very good product. And price is no real indicator of quality either much of the time, as some people find that a $4 drug store choice is far more effective for them than a $50 product from a posh beauty counter.

There are however some choices that are considered by many experts to be the best in general. An individual will still have to be willing to experiment a little to figure out just which one is best for them, but when faced with dozens and dozens of choices on the shelves in front of you, the information we are going to share here should help you make a more informed purchasing decision.

The Ultimate Acne Diet: What to Eat and What to Avoid for Flawless Skin

by Christine Glasgow @

Acne Diet; The Do’s and Don’ts of Eating to Right to Combat Bad Skin

It’s an old adage; you are what you eat. And there is little doubt that the foods – and beverages – you consume can and do have a serious effect, sometimes negative, sometimes positive, on your health overall. But do foods really have an impact when it comes to preventing – and maybe even treating – acne?

The effect of foods on acne prone skin is a controversial subject, and there are a lot of myths out there that science has, for the most part, exploded over the last several years. On the other hand, science has also supported the beliefs, good and bad, about some other food stuffs and food groups. Let’s take a look at some of those more recent findings and what they might mean for your daily diet if you have acne prone skin and want to avoid breakouts as much as possible.

Acne Diet Don’t: High Glycemic Index Foods

High Glycemic Index Foods are a concern for many scientists and nutritionists in general. And the evidence that they have a negative effect on acne prone skin is some of the strongest in the field at the moment.

The Glycemic Index, if you have not heard of it before, is a number value that is assigned to foods based on how quickly or slowly those foods cause increases in blood glucose levels. As some of you may already know a blood glucose level – more commonly known as a blood sugar level – that is above normal can be considered toxic, and, if sustained could lead to kidney failure, heart failure and blindness.

Therefore, those with diabetes and other conditions that call for strict blood sugar control already know that High Glycemic Index Foods are off the menu for them. However, according to numerous studies, they should also be off limits for those with acne prone skin.

Consuming foods on the High Glycemic Index spectrum causes a rapid spike in blood glucose levels. For a diabetic it’s a health risk, for others it often just promotes queasiness and maybe heartburn. For those who have acne prone skin though that spike in blood sugar levels often also triggers the skin to produce more sebum than normal, something that can quickly clog and block pores, a leading cause of acne.

What are these bad for your skin, sugar spiking foods? They include all the following:

White potatoes
Plain flour
White rice
White Sugar
Corn Flakes, puffed rice and other similar breakfast cereals
White bread
Most cookies
Pizza (sorry)

If this sounds like by cutting these foods out of your diet you’ll be left with nothing tasty to eat, the good news is that does not have to be the case. Low Glycemic Index foods have the opposite effect, and so subbing some of them for their ‘bad’ counterparts can help keep your diet interesting while keeping your skin clearer. These include;

Sweet potatoes
Cauliflower – and yes, you can make a great cauliflower crust for pizza!
Steel-cut oatmeal
Multi wholegrain breads (brands like Ezekiel for [...]

Clinique Acne Solutions Reviews - Is it Worth All the Hype? -

Another very popular acne cleansing solution that you will find in the markets today is Clinique Acne Solutions. I have to say, every time I go to my local supermarket, I find something new. Clinique itself is an established brand that has been producing a range of skincare treatment methods for many years. The company currently provides a suite of different cleansing solutions that are designed for people who suffer from acne-prone skin. Again, just like the thousands of other companies that manufacture acne treatment solutions, Clinique also claims that its products are highly effective and will show results within a week (eye roll).I can’t remember the sheer number of times that I have heard these statements in the past few years since I started reviewing skincare products. The company claims that its medicated formula (which contains 2% salicylic acid) can help eliminate acne breakouts and minimize the number of blackheads on your skin. In this review, we will test whether Clinique Acne Solutions actually stands up to the claims that it so ardently makes, or whether it falls short. Clinique Acne Solutions – Delving InBefore I begin this review, let me say something:  from what little knowledge that I have about different chemicals that affect the skin, I should let you know that salicylic acid requires a considerable amount of time to work on your skin. It takes a while for salicylic acid to exert its blackhead-reducing and anti-acne powers. That said, you can’t expect such benefits from a product that you have to rinse off after five minutes (such as this one). The company claims that it is a fast-acting acne solution that provides instant results. Of course, by instant, they mean a few days. It comes in a light-grey tube and is a cleansing gel with a clear, water-soluble texture. It creates a mild lather when you apply it on your skin. The gentle cleansing solution is designed to work well in removing the oils left behind due to makeup and the debris on your skin. The company clearly mentions that its Cleansing Gel doesn’t leave behind a dry or irritating effect on the skin, which I have to say is a nice gesture. However, in truth, that’s not really true. Many, and let me emphasize this word again, many, have claimed that Clinique Acne Solutions causes allergy outbreaks and leaves their skin feeling extremely irritated and dry. Some claimed that the Cleansing Gel left itchy red bumps on their skin, while others, who were lucky enough to escape without any side effects, stated that they couldn’t see any visible difference after having used the product for quite some time.I am sure that by now, you can figure out the stark contrast between what the company says and what people actually think about the product. The biggest problem that most people had with using Clinique Acne Solutions was that it caused acne breakouts, whereas the whole purpose of using this gel was to prevent acne breakouts. You should know that there’s also [...]

9 Best Foundations for Acne Prone skin and Oily Skin

by Christine Glasgow @

The Best Makeup & Foundation for Acne-Prone Skin

For many, the thought of leaving the house without make up is one they find rather unsavory, especially if they have acne prone skin. However, as some find out the hard way, choosing the wrong foundation can cause more problems for acne prone skin than it solves. While looking for an effective way to create the illusion of better skin – and better skin tone – some choose a heavy, comedogenic preparation that worsens the acne that’s already driving them nuts.

Making use of foundation effectively – and achieving that much wanted flawless finish we’re all looking for – is about more than just finding a non-comedogenic – aka non-pore clogging – foundation though, it’s also about applying it in the right way. Let’s take a closer look at the issue to see just how you can use a foundation that’s kind to your skin to enhance it rather than damage it any further.

The Problem with Some Foundations

Foundation does tend to be rather heavy, sometimes even gloopy stuff. Therefore, it’s not too hard to see how wearing it on the skin for hours at a time can clog pores and make an acne problem even worse. Some are also oil based, great for longevity and even wear, but not so great for skin that is already prone to be oily in general anyway.

Before we start looking at just which foundations are better for those with acne prone skin we should consider how it should be applied once you find it. Foundation can be great when it comes to covering up existing acne and acne scarring but to do so it must be applied in the right way. Done wrong, rather than getting the great results they are hoping for it’s far too easy to end up looking like a clown, caked in makeup that’s too heavy, too dark and wears into ugly blotches in just a few hours. To avoid this fate, keep the following basic ‘rules’ in mind.

Use a beauty blender and/or brush to apply foundation, rather than your germy fingers.
Keep your blenders and brushes clean, as dirty tools are just as bad as dirty fingers.
Understand that there is rarely one foundation that suits every occasion. You may need one for all day wear at work, a lighter one for summer wear and one that offers a little moisture for the winter months.
Start with a primer. These colorless formulas help mattify oily skin and create a smooth base for the makeup to come, as well as extend wear.
Don’t apply more than a layer or two. Any more than that will look cakey.
Set your foundation with a loose powder. This will not only help it wear longer but also further ‘blur’ any skin imperfections like pimples and scarring.
Never go to bed without removing your foundation. This is a rule that everyone should follow, even if they have ‘good skin’, but it is particularly important for those who battle acne.

Acne Face Map: What Does Acne Reveal About Your Health

by Christine Glasgow @

The Art of Acne Face Mapping Explained

We can be sure that human beings have been battling acne since they were living in caves and chasing woolly mammoths for dinner.  And that over the course of many millennia countless theories for just why it occurs and how to treat it have been put forward. Yet, in reality, the amount of definitive information about the causes of treatment of acne is relatively small.

Because acne is so hard for even medical professionals and scientists to truly figure out it’s hardly surprising that for ‘normal’ acne sufferers trying to find effective ways to treat and prevent acne is an ongoing project, and often an experimental one at that. Think about it, how many different acne treatments have you tried? How many life style changes have you made in the hopes that by doing so you’ll make your acne go away? We’ll bet it’s a lot more than a few.

The fact is that often the best way to try to treat and prevent acne is collect all the wisdom out there, read up on all the theories, maybe visit a doctor and then find a way to create your own personal acne battle plan.

With this in mind you might be interested in learning about the art of face mapping, and how it may be able to help you advance in your efforts to banish your unique skin problems.

What is Face Mapping?

Face mapping has its roots in both Ancient Chinese Medicine and in Ayurvedic medicine, a form of alternative medicine practiced in India for over 3,000 years. The belief behind face mapping is that the condition of your skin is a reflection of problems elsewhere in your body. So, depending upon where your breakouts occur, those zits and pimples may be a sign of health issues related to digestion, respiratory systems, mental health and more.

Before we get into the specifics of face mapping for acne, it should be noted that this is certainly not an exact science, and just because are prone to breakouts in certain areas doesn’t necessarily mean you are suffering from the conditions the map associates with them. It is however an interesting concept that many have found helpful. And when acne is a problem you deal with a lot, sometimes trying something new really helps.

The Acne Face Map Breakdown

As we mentioned, the acne face map breaks down the face into several distinct areas, offering possible causes for acne that occurs there as well as potential solutions. So, without further ado, let’s take a closer look…

The Forehead

Yes, if you make careful use of makeup (and hairstyling) forehead breakouts are some of the easiest to conceal. That does not make them any less annoying though. And as they can be especially nasty, the scarring they can leave behind can be even harder to deal with.

Potential Causes of Forehead Breakouts

Sluggish liver function
Sluggish digestive function
Lack of sleep
Toxin buildups (related to poor digestion)
Excessive sugar consumption
Using too many harsh hair products
Wearing bangs/grimy headgear (think worn baseball caps)

Possible Solutions [...]

Does chocolate cause acne? Myth or Truth

by Christine Glasgow @

When it comes to acne, there is a lot written and said about it, and what might cause it, that is often not very clear or even agreed upon by everyone. One thing that can be very confusing – because there are so many different opinions – is whether or not certain types of food can cause, or worsen, acne. And one of the oldest debates? Does eating chocolate lead to more zits?

The Big Chocolate Dilemma

There are very few sensible people in the world who would ever claim that chocolate could be considered a health food. But is it really that bad, especially since, well, it tastes so good? Surely it’s OK to indulge occasionally, especially if the situation you are in practically begs for the stuff (the aftermath of a bad breakup, the days before your period starts etc.) and it is, after all, truly delicious.

And it’s true. There are foods out there that most people agree are far worse for your overall health than chocolate. Fried foods, for example, are pretty bad, and some processed foods contain more sugar than the average bar of chocolate anyway. But for years we’ve been told to avoid chocolate because it can cause acne breakouts, especially if you already have acne prone skin. Or does it really? Let’s take a closer look at some of the current evidence, research and opinion to try and figure this chocolate and acne connection out.

What Does Science Have to Say? Where’s the link?

As of right now, there are no credible, peer reviewed scientific research studies published that prove a link between the consumption of chocolate and the occurrence of acne. There have been some, very small, very limited studies that suggest that there may be a link. There have also been some other, very small, very limited studies that seem to have found the exact opposite.

On the whole however, most scientists and medical professionals agree that chocolate is unlikely to be a cause of acne directly. However, some of its ingredients are certainly not very skin friendly, or health friendly in general, so no-one is suggesting that it’s OK to add a chocolate bar a day to your diet, whether you are prone to acne or not.

Why Do So Many People Believe There’s a Chocolate/Acne Link, if There Isn’t?

Good question. But then again, many people believe all kinds of strange things, even when there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. Did you know that NBA basketball stars Shaquille O’Neal, Kyrie Irving, Wilson Chandler and Draymond Green are ‘Flat Earthers’, and believe that the planet is not a round one at all? They’ve even argued in public with Neil deGrasse Tyson about it. And they are far from alone, many of their fans believe it too.

And that’s maybe the answer. When a popular person – or persons – publicizes a certain issue or theory many people often simply assume it must be true. For years magazines, newspapers and beauty experts have been finding those little tiny [...]

How to Get Rid of Oily Skin Permanently: Effective Natural Remedies

by Christine Glasgow @

Top Natural Home Remedies to Get Rid of Oily Skin

Shine is great on your lips, it’s not so great on your skin in general, not if that shine is caused by an overproduction of oil anyway. And not only is oily skin unattractive it’s also a big reason why acne is a problem for many. Excess oil leads to clogged pores, clogged pores lead to nasty, unsightly acne pimples and to a cycle of breakouts that can seem impossible to stop.

If only then there was a way to ‘get rid’ of oily skin, but that’s probably not possible right, especially if, like many, it’s a genetic disposition that makes it that way in the first place. The good news is though that while you may not be able to change your skin type permanently there are many ways that you can keep that oil at bay, reducing shine and acne as well. And it’s those solutions we’re going to look at here.

What Causes Oily Skin in the First Place?

Before getting into just how to better control oily skin, it’s helpful to understand why it is so greasy in the first place. In fact, there are many common reasons, including all the following:

Genetics– Some people simply have oily skin that ‘runs in the family’.
Hormonal changes – As the hormones fluctuate throughout a woman’s menstrual cycle the sebaceous (oil producing) glands are often thrown into disarray.
Stress – The body often produces more androgen hormones as a response to stress, something that can lead to increased oil production in the skin.
Seasonal Weather Changes – The weather can affect your skin’s oil production. The humidity of the summer or the drying effect of winter winds can both throw oil glands into overdrive.
Using the Wrong Skincare Products – For example, if you have ‘normal’ skin, but use a cleanser for oily skin, the dehydration that may occur can literally change your skin type, giving you the oily skin you were trying to avoid as your skin attempts to re-hydrate by increasing oil production.
Overusing Skincare Products – Too much scrubbing, exfoliating and/or overusing ‘oil control’ products and acne medications or treatments can lead to skin dehydration that, once again, the body attempts to fix by triggering your skin to produce more oil.
Medications – Some medications – especially birth control pills and some antibiotics, can trigger increased oil production in the sebaceous glands.
Tanning – Many people think that a sunbathing session at the beach, or in a tanning bed, actually helps to ‘fix’ oily skin. But the ‘drying’ effect is only temporary. Tanning in this way triggers an ‘injury response’ in the skin, once again leading oil glands to overproduce.

Simple Lifestyle Changes to Fix Oily Skin

In some cases, simply making a few, relatively easy, lifestyle and habit changes can help fix an oily skin problem. These might include any – or all – of the following:

Get a Professional Skin Evaluation – Not sure if your oily skin might be genetic? Get a professional skin evaluation to find [...]

The Truth Behind Rodan + Fields Products: Do These Adult Acne Products Really Work?

Rodan and Fields – as in Dr. Kathy Fields and Dr. Katie Rodan – have been household names for well over two decades, thanks to the fact that they are the co-creators of one of the best-known acne treatment ‘systems’ in the world; Proactiv.

After years of spearheading the success of that brand though, in 2002 the two, who are indeed, as those old Proactiv commercials claimed, Stanford University trained dermatologists, sold Proactiv to Gunthy Renker and started up a new business – Rodan + Fields, a new line of skincare products designed to appeal to a broader range of people – especially women – than Proactiv ever had. Once again the ladies struck gold and it’s become a billion dollar business. But what about the products, do they actually offer something different – and effective – to those suffering from acne? Let’s take a closer look.

The Rodan + Fields Story

The first few years of the new skincare brand that Drs Rodan and Fields launched were a little turbulent. They placed a limited range of skincare products, products designed to address both acne and skin aging concerns, in major department stores and they sold fairly well. In 2004, they accepted a buy-out offer from cosmetics giant Estee Lauder, citing a desire to slow down and spend more time with their families.

That didn’t last. Buy 2007 the pair bought their ‘baby’ back and began transitioning the brand from the confines of the department store to the world of online sales and multi-level marketing. These days Rodan+Fields can be compared to Avon or Mary Kay, with primary sales coming via the work of ‘consultants’ who sell the products on a commission basis.

The Philosophy Behind Rodan + Fields Skincare

The vast majority of the consumers who buy into Proactiv skincare systems are teens and young people in their 20s who suffer from mild to moderate acne. The system is based on the use of two very common and tried and tested acne fighting ingredients; benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. These can be very effective when treating mild to moderate acne.

The problem is, as Rodan and Fields knew, that as the skin ages it changes, as does the acne that affects it. The skin is then subject to other issues as well; dark spots, wrinkles, a loss of elasticity and more. In creating their new range of products, the dermatologists took this older demographic and made them their primary focus as customers.

Rodan + Fields and Acne Treatment

The Rodan + Fields product line has become a very extensive one, and now offers cosmetics as well as skincare treatments. For this piece though we are going to concentrate on the products that might be helpful for those suffering from acne.

Adult acne is more of a problem than some people (people who are not affected by it) realize, so the market for specialty skincare treatments to address adult acne is a large one. It’s also a [...]

Proactiv Plus Acne System – Do Proactiv Products Really Work to Cure Acne?

by Christine Glasgow @

No one likes acne. No one wants to deal with pimples. So, the acne treatment business is a big one, and the acne products market is huge. There are literally hundreds of different treatment options out there for those who battle with acne to choose from to try and help them win their ‘war on zits’.

Chances are that if you suffer with even occasional acne you have at least heard of Proactiv, even if you haven’t ever quite got around to dialing that toll-free number at the end of the infomercials.

Often mistakenly referred to as Proactive – there is no ‘e’ folks, check the bottles – Proactiv is an ‘acne treatment system’ that first began popping up on those late-night infomercials back in 1995. Since then it has become one of the best-known acne treatments on the market in the US, the UK, Europe and a few other global markets. But is it really the ‘miracle cure’ that those rather hard sell, shouty mid Ninties commercials – which have been dropped in recent years in favor of a ‘softer’ sell – used to claim it was? Or is it just another way to hook desperate folks into a monthly subscription they don’t really need? We decided to take a closer look.

Proactiv Beginnings

If you did ever see those early Proactiv commercials then you’ll remember that one of the biggest selling points was that this was a skincare system developed by two “Stanford Educated Dermatologists”. And that was actually true.

Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields did meet at Stanford University School of Medicine back in the late 1980s, and it was indeed while they were still in school that they began developing their product line, mainly in their kitchens. After they graduated and began practicing the project continued on a part-time basis until the pair felt they had something worth sharing. They tried to sell it to big name companies like Neutrogena but were turned down. So, using what they admit today was a ‘cheesy’ marketing idea they turned to the world of infomercials. And a billion-dollar brand was born.

In 2002 they sold Proactiv to start up a new line of skincare products – Rodan + Fields also known as Rodan and Fields, which is every bit as successful, and a little more high end – to one of the companies who had originally turned it down, Gunthy Renker. Nestle bought a big share in 2016 as well.

Even without its founders Proactiv is still a big seller, and it has been used by thousands and thousands of acne sufferers at this point. But again, the big question is, does it work and is it worth the money?

The Proactiv System Explained

Years ago, when it first launched Proactiv was a three-product skincare system – a cleanser, a toner and an ‘acne lotion’. And although numerous other products were added over time it is still these three ‘steps’ that are at the core of the system, which is for the most part a subscription service that [...]

Adult Acne: 10 Highly Effective and Proven Solutions For Adult Acne

by Christine Glasgow @

Often people associate acne with youth and teenage angst. And it’s perfectly true that many a teenager has to spend years dealing with pesky pimples only to find – to their great relief – that the problem goes away once their adolescent hormones calm down as they head into their twenties.

That is not the case for everyone though. For some blowing out the candles on the twentieth birthday cake does not signal a new era of clearer skin, but instead the beginning of a new battle against adult acne, a skin problem that is just as annoying, but different in nature, calling for new treatments and skin care to treat and prevent it.

What is Adult Acne? The truth about adult acne

The acne that adults wrestle with – and not just 20 and 30 somethings but people in their 40s and 50s as well – is officially termed ‘adult onset acne’ by dermatologists. It is more common in women, especially those approaching or going through menopause, but men can be affected too.

Adult acne, like teen acne, can have several different causes, including all of the following:

Hormones – Adult hormones are as prone to being disrupted as teenage ones are, especially in women. Pregnancy and menopause can be especially disruptive, as can the birth control pills that many adult women take for many years during their 20s and 30s. And, as is the case in teens, these hormonal changes can trigger acne, even if it has never been a problem in the past.

Stress – It’s fair to say that the responsibilities of being a ‘grown up’ come along with more than a little stress for most. Career, family and increased financial responsibilities all take their toll on the average adult’s stress levels, and that can lead to a toll on their skin as well.

In fact, many recent research studies have been able to demonstrate a relationship between increased stress and adult acne flare-ups. These studies found that one of the body’s responses to stress is to produce more androgens. These hormones can help provide some natural stress relief but they also stimulate in the oil glands in the skin, leading to problem pimples.

Genetics – For some, adult acne appears to be a genetic trait. That means that if your parents were still dealing with acne in their adult years then the chances are increased that you will too, and there is very little you can do about it.

Environmental Factors – The environment is none too kind to adult skin. An increase in the number of free radicals in the air – mainly thanks to increased pollution – ages the skin prematurely, drying it out and decreasing its natural healing abilities. Often the body’s response is to increase oil production to the skin to try and reduce the damage, resulting in acne pimples.

Poor Diet – Once you are an adult with a full-time job and a family to care for self-care does tend to go out of the window, and that can be [...]
