Original Full Post is found here: Not a fan of matte liquid lipstick but had a go at the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment anyway

It looks like matte liquid lipsticks are still going strong in the makeup world and are now branching out from the niche brand market into the mainstream market. That is sometimes a sure sign of demise of a trend LOL! I came across pictures of the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment matte liquid lipsticks, but paid themContinue Reading

I'm delighted to announce that my new blog/website is live!

I am so excited about the site! I will be updating my new blog every afternoon (yes I now have a designated blog time haha). To thank my followers for moving over (and to thank my new followers) I'll be running a blog competition with MAC prizes :)

I won't be posting on this blog anymore.

Quick Review: The Clinique x Jonathan Adler Brush Set

by Liz Lanuzo @ Articles - Project Vanity

Honestly, it's getting harder and harder for me to blog. There are so many moving parts in our business that keeps my whole day booked! There are events, products, and even our own line which is now available in retail. It's a lot of work but I love what I do every single day. I don't want to stop writing because it is a huge chunk of who I am and it's how I built this up from nothing. So I'm not going to overthink it; I will keep on writing about the products I use, and it will have been worth it if you enjoyed reading it.

Ellana Cosmetics just released new lippies, and they're 50% off (srsly)

by Crystal Rodis-Concepcion @ Articles - Project Vanity

We've raved about the Ellana Cosmetics foundations so many times before and even now, their crazy good powders still have a place in our vanities. But did you know that they also have killer liquid lipsticks? Ellana Mineral Cosmetics Lip in Luxe Matte Liquid Lipsticks have one of the best wear-it-and-forget-it formulas we've ever tried. Once set, they're completely smudge-proof and transfer-proof. In fact, we tested them on a swimming trip and they passed with flying colors! What's even more exciting is that Ellana has just released five new shades, bringing your color options to eight in total.

What’s In My Makeup Bag? Summer 2017

You must watch this What’s In My Makeup Bag video, if only to see my miraculous hair transformation in the last twenty seconds! In one frame I have quite an uninspiring ‘do – I’d just let my hair down from a mini-ponytail – and in the next, I have volume not dissimilar to that of Rachel…

J-Beauty Love: My three favorite things from Kate Tokyo's new collection

by Marielle Ong @ Articles - Project Vanity

Sparks flew the first time I experience Kate Tokyo in the summer of 2016. It was during a media event launching a line of eyeshadows and face bases that I found myself captivated with this J-beauty brand’s take on edgy makeup. More so, it was when I learned to do the life-changing vertical gradation eyeshadow technique that made my monolids look bigger and brighter! I’ve been doing my eye makeup that way every since.

Best and Worst "Low Priced" Makeup Foundation

by Anita Munson @ Beauty Journal - Woodinville, Seattle, Bellevue, - Makeup, Brows, and Lashes - Anita Munson

In a perfect world, every foundation would last all day, and conceal all of those little imperfections that you'd rather the world didn't see. In reality, picking foundations is a trial-and-error process where the errors leave you with oily, breakout-prone skin. So in an effort to avoid foundation horror stories and wasted money, here is a look at the best and worst skin foundations on the market.

Best: Maybelline SuperStay 24HR - While some foundations throw the "24HR" tag at the end of their product to trick unsuspecting consumers, Maybelline SuperStay 24HR actually means something. And it's cheap too since you can get SuperStay 24HR for just $10! Grab this product if you're pulling an all-nighter, or just want assurance that your foundation won't be covering shirt sleeves and pillows more than your face.

Worst: L'oreal Roller Match Foundation - If you're short on Halloween costumes, you can always grab L'oreal Roller Match Foundation because it will literally make you look like you're wearing a mask. The mask-like appearance of Roller Match Foundation also makes your face feel extremely heavy. On a positive note, L'oreal Roller Match Foundation does do a decent job of providing coverage, and the price isn't horrible at $15.

Best: Neutrogena Skin Clearing Liquid Foundation - The great thing about Neutrogena Skin Clearing Foundation is that it not only helps to clear your skin, but it also prevents dreaded acne as well. Besides this, Neutrogena's liquid gem lasts throughout the day, and won't feel heavy on your skin like other foundations do. The $12 price tag on Neutrogena Skin Clearing Foundation makes this product a steal.

Worst: Maybelline New York Super Stay Silky Foundation - Maybelline's Super Stay Silky Foundation has a lot of problems beginning with the fact that it's too dry and thick. In fact, you might even be better off using this as a concealer if you've already made the mistake of buying it. Another problem with Super Stay Silky is that it's pretty cakey-looking, so it's pretty obvious that you're wearing foundation with this product.

Best: Revlon ColorStay - If you're looking for a foundation that does an adequate job of covering imperfections without breaking the bank, Revlon ColorStay products are certainly worth $10. You don't have to worry about ColorStay smudging, and it won't appear caked-on like some makeup does.

Worst: MAC Mineralize Skin Finish - While MAC certainly offers some quality makeup products, Mineralize Skin Finish isn't exactly their best effort. For starters, this foundation doesn't offer much coverage for pimples, and it can even take you back to those embarrassing high school days by causing more unsightly blemishes. On top of this, the price is pretty unsightly too at $26-$28.

Best: Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid - Maybelline's Dream Satin Liquid isn't the best of the best, but it does live up to most of its claims. Dream Satin Liquid makes your pores a lot less noticeable just as advertised (though not exactly pore-less). And while you probably won't get the "airbrush finish" that Maybelline claims this product will provide, Dream Satin Liquid feels light and smooth on your skin. In any case, the $12 price makes this foundation worth a try.

Worst: Covergirl TRUBlend - Covergirl's TRUBlend foundation is a perfect example of getting what you pay for. At just $8, TRUBlend is one of the cheapest foundations you'll find. However, it can also turn orange as the day wears on and your skin starts getting oily. Even before the orange coloration sets in, TRUBlend tends to create a flakey appearance on your skin.

Best: Clinique Superfit Foundation - Clinique Superfit is one of the top foundations for those who don't want to advertise that they're wearing foundation. SuperFit is super light, and it gives you a natural look that's totally void of the average cakey, breakout-causing foundation. One thing to keep in mind with Superfit is that it's a little more costly than some foundations at $22.

Worst: Almay Nearly Naked Touch Pad Foundation - For $30 makeup, you'd expect more from Almay Nearly Naked Touch Pad Foundation. Unfortunately, this product can make your skin oily and blotchy just a few hours after application. One more mark against Nearly Naked Touch Pad is that it starts to smell about a week after being opened.

Clarins Supra Volume: The Best Brown Mascara?

by Ruth Crilly @ A Model Recommends

I’m partial to a bit of brown mascara for daytime makeup looks; often jet-black can look a little bold and stark, especially if I’m trying to keep things low-key. FYI: In Her Element is now available in Beauty Bar stores

by Liz Lanuzo @ Articles - Project Vanity

Some of you may know that I started beauty blogging while I was in college almost ten years ago. I was a poor student in UP Manila, but I had some income from freelance writing gigs so I could buy makeup here and there. Still, I'd save up all my allowance and eat the cheapest lunch everyday just so I can shop for things to review! I started with drugstore brands but eventually worked up to pricier but better products. I remember that one of the very first "expensive" things I bought was a Prestige palette in Beauty Bar. I remember going inside the store so many times, exploring and swatching everything, before deciding on that 750-peso face and eye palette.

Staff Picks: The powders that keep our makeup intact

As a dry-skinned gal, I didn't think I needed to set my look with powder until I began to notice the foundation on my nose would disappear after just a few hours of wear. It would happen even though I was using a long-wear formula and my face hadn't oiled up much! I've learned to apply a bit of setting powder after since then, and it has honestly made a difference in how much longer my makeup lasts! If you're a newbie at this like I am, it's good to know that there are great budget options available. But what if you want to invest in something that's HG quality? Well, that's where the rest of the PV team chimed in!

Quick beauty tips for moms ( part 1)

by Anita Munson @ Beauty Journal - Woodinville, Seattle, Bellevue, - Makeup, Brows, and Lashes - Anita Munson

Many moms wonder how do you have small children and still have the time to look like you care for your self as much as you do your little ones? Here are some quick tips that will help.

1. For makeup, curl your lashes and apply your favorite mascara, this will make you appear more awake. Apply your favorite tinted lip gloss this will make you appear fresh and youthful, and a quick brush of cheek color. This process should take no more than 5 minutes but will make all the difference between a mom who makes parenting look easy and a mom who has let parenting rob her of her glamor.

Moms that spend lots of time with their little ones can be exhausted but we don't have to look like it.

Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts Palette

by AILAH @ C O S M E T A L I T Y

Hello everyone! I’m back with a review on the finally permanent Queen of Hearts Palette by Coloured Raine. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t pay much attention to this when it first came out because I had too many eyeshadow palettes for my own good but honestly even when I want to have a spending ban on makeup, it never ever goes my way. When I changed my mind and wanted to purchase it, it was sold out and at that time it was limited edition and I was so sad that I would never be able to get my hands on it. BUT I got lucky when I saw the announcement of this coming back as a permanent product and placed an order. The shipping didn’t take very long, I would say about 4-5 days which is really good for a popular product and I fell. In. Love. I have always supported this brand and always order their liquid lipsticks, which are seriously amazing if you’re on the hunt for super pigmented and long lasting colors. Anyways, let’s take a closer look at this palette, shall we? This palette has more warm tones with both matte and satin […]

In no event will Prize Provider or Makeuptalk be liable to you for any direct, special, incidental, exemplary, punitive or consequential damages (including loss of use, data, business or profits) arising out of or in connection with your participation in the Contest, whether such liability arises from any claim based upon contract, warranty, tort (including negligence), strict liability or otherwise, and whether or not Sponsor HAS been advised of the possibility of such loss or damage. Spring beauty tips

by Anita Munson @ Beauty Journal - Woodinville, Seattle, Bellevue, - Makeup, Brows, and Lashes - Anita Munson

Fresh and romantic! A natural, discreet makeup can be worn anytime and anywhere regardless the occasion as it hides all beauty imperfections and adds a special, glossy touch. For spring 2013 think adorable lips and a baby complexion! Keep it simple opting for a luminous, soft skin and barely there makeup. Avoid the caked-on face using a tinted lotion in order to even out your skin tone.
However, for visible breakouts or other skin issues, apply a small amount of concealer. Remember that using too much will only emphasize the flaws you are trying to camouflage. If you are facing a shiny complexion, fix the problem with a special oil-absorbing powder. For a youthful, baby doll look, choose a cream, peachy cheek color, and voilà a spring time beauty.

Kommentar zu Reisekosmetik packen – Tipps & Tricks für leichtes Gepäck von Susan

by Susan @ Kommentare für Beauty Butterflies

by noreply@blogger.com (queenisabelle29) @ All Hail the Queen

Today is the first day of December and we are in the final stretch of time before my finals for this semester and the end of the holiday season.  I have a few last products from the holiday collections that I want to look for and then I will start thinking about what types of beauty trends we will be seeing for the spring season.  I am the most excited about Urban Decay releasing the Naked 3 Eye Shadow Palette in the very beginning of this month and I will be waiting on pins and needles until I can buy and try it out.

I also make a larger Most Wanted List in the month of December, I get inspired by the Twelve Days of Christmas and I want to pick up a few extra holiday gifts for myself.  This month I have a mixture of makeup and perfume products that I want and then I plan to try some new skincare products in the month of January.  I am feeling all kinds of new color products right now and I want quite a few new eye shadow palettes this month.

My Christmas List!

- Urban Decay Naked 3 Eye Shadow Palette
- Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Eye Shadow Palette
- Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in 24 Karat
- Zoya Zenith Nail Polish in Seraphina
- Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge in Absolute Rouge

- YSL Parisian Night Blush Collector Palette Rue de Babylone
- YSL Parisian Night Rouge Volupte Shine in Pink in Paris
- Dior Golden Winter 5-Couleurs Eye Palette in Golden Flowers
- China Glaze Happy Holiglaze Nail Lacquer in Mingle With Kringle

I am so ready for the first new full Urban Decay Naked Eye Shadow Palette since December of 2011, the small Naked Basics palettes are not near as exciting as this release and I am hoping that I will have my hands on Naked 3 by the beginning of next week!

First Look: Kate Tokyo drops a new line with foundation and eye makeup

by Crystal Rodis-Concepcion @ Articles - Project Vanity

I first learned about Kanebo from my mom way back when I was grade school. Watching her use it as I grew up, it was also the brand I sought when I started buying my own makeup. The price was out of range for my student budget though so I gravitated towards the more affordable Kate Tokyo (it was simply known as "Kate" then). Kate Tokyo doesn’t get as much attention as other Kanebo brands like Lunasol and Impress but it's like Kanebo’s chic, trendier sister! It offers the same high quality expected of a Japanese heritage brand but at a price that's on the pocket. This season, Kate Tokyo is releasing some new products and improving on their existing ones as well. Let's explore!

5 Beauty tips every woman should know

by Anita Munson @ Beauty Journal - Woodinville, Seattle, Bellevue, - Makeup, Brows, and Lashes - Anita Munson

Standing tall, feeling confident, believing in yourself -- these are all important ways to feel your best. But as any woman who's ever stood in front of a mirror can tell you, beauty secrets count too!

While the way we look may be only one part of who we are, it is still a part of us. And feeling that you look your best can be a real confidence booster.

Looking your best doesn't have to be complicated or expensive, either. Experts say most of us really only need to pay attention to a few basic beauty secrets - essentials that can help you look and feel great without spending a lot of time or money.

To help you find the beauty tips that really work, WebMD talked to top skin care and beauty experts, who parted with their personal tips for looking great:

Beauty Tip 1: Never Underestimate the Power of Moisturizer

Whether your skin is dry, normal, or even oily, if you can only afford one skin care product, experts say, your dollars will be well spent on a good moisturizer.

"Sometimes, all you really need is a good moisturizer and a mild cleanser, and you can take years off your face," says New York University professor Rhoda Narins, MD, president of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. When skin is dry, says Narins, every wrinkle is accentuated, making you look older.

If you're in your 20s or 30s, doctors say, moisturizers will give you some of the protection you need to keep skin from prematurely aging.

"In your 20s and early 30s, a good moisturizer can take the place of a lot of products," says Park Avenue plastic surgeon Darrick Antell, MD.

So what exactly is a "good" moisturizer? Dermatologist Charles E. Crutchfield III, MD, describes it this way: "It's a product that will do anything from gently adding moisture, to sealing in the moisture you've achieved, to helping your skin produce more moisture -- and which type you choose should be based on your skin's individual needs."

If skin is normal to dry, look for moisturizers containing alpha hydroxy acids. They can help skin produce more moisture on its own, says Crutchfield, an associate clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

If skin is very dry, he also suggests products using a technology called vesicular emulsion.

"This technology uses microscopic spheres that are alternating layers of moisture and water that slowly release throughout the day, so you get continual moisturization," says Crutchfield.

If skin is oily, look for a light, gentle moisturizer - but don't skip this step, cautions Crutchfield.

"Oil is not moisture, and even if you have excess oil you still need moisture," he says.

Beauty Tip 2: Sunscreen Is Your Best Antiaging Product.

Before you see the plastic surgeon, before you plunk down half a paycheck on that pricey anti-aging cream, in fact, before you do anything, put on sunscreen.

While most of us know it reduces the risk of skin cancer, did you also know it's an amazing beauty secret that can help keep skin looking young?

The reason, say experts, is that when sunscreen blocks out the sun's damaging rays, it also blocks their aging effects.

"The sun impacts collagen production in the skin, and without collagen, skin won't naturally maintain that plump, moist, youthful, wrinkle-free look," says Antell. Get enough sun exposure, he says, and skin will wrinkle long before its time.

Without the protection of sunscreen, just a few minutes of daily sun exposure over the years can cause noticeable changes in how skin looks and feels, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

Not only will you see more wrinkles and fine lines, but also more freckles, age spots, and spider veins. Skin itself can look rough and leathery or loose and slack - all thanks to the sun.

Sunscreen can protect your skin from these damaging rays, so that even if you do spend time outdoors, your face is less likely to give away your age.

Crutchfield advises choosing a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. Because sun breaks down its effectiveness over time, if you're going to be in direct sunlight for an extended period, reapply every hour or two.

Another option: Use your regular sunscreen before putting on makeup (it should go on first, before anything). Then, for touch-ups, use a light, translucent mineral powder to add extra protection throughout the day.

"These powders contain a natural sunscreen, and since they generally don't build up on the skin you can keep adding protection all day long," says Crutchfield.

Beauty Tip 3: Choose Your Cleanser Wisely

If you're a "soap and water" girl (or guy), you may want to rethink your cleansing strategy. Dermatologists say that one of the best beauty tips around is to use the gentlest cleanser you can find - and use it sparingly.

"While the temptation may be great to wash your face several times a day (or more if skin is oily), not only will over-cleansing not help you, if you're using a harsh product -- particularly soap -- you could be harming your skin," says Crutchfield.

Wash your face too often - more than twice a day - and you can damage the natural lipid barrier, the protective mantle of lubrication that keeps skin looking and feeling healthy.

"Once that protection is lost, and the integrity of the skin barrier disrupted, skin becomes dry - which means it can crack, peel, itch, burn, sting, or any combination," says Crutchfield. It also means you can look older than your years.

The solution: Wash skin no more than twice a day and choose your cleanser wisely.

Beauty Tip 4: Use the Right Tools for the Right Job

You can have the best eyeshadow money can buy, the world's most luxurious foundation, a bronzer straight from the cosmetic bag of a supermodel. But if you don't have the right tools to apply them, their benefits will be lost.

What constitutes the "right" tools? Brushes should be soft and feel gentle on the skin, but also have substance so the product can be moved to the surface of your skin. If you dip a brush in shadow or blush and the color falls off before you make it to your face, that's a bad brush, experts say.

Beauty Tip 5: Update Hair and Makeup Every 2 Years

If you walk into your high school reunion and hear a chorus of "You haven't changed a bit," run, run, RUN to the nearest beauty salon!

Experts say that if you can't even remember the last time you changed your hair and makeup, it's way overdue.

"Ideally, your image, including hair and makeup, should be updated at least every two years - and sooner if the styles change dramatically," says Beverly Hills hair expert and QVC personality Nick Chavez.

Fenty Beauty Foundation and Highlighters

by AILAH @ C O S M E T A L I T Y

I’m back with yet another review of the Fenty Beauty Collection. By now I’m sure you all have read and done plenty of research on all the products from the new Fenty Beauty line by Rihanna. I personally love Rihanna and had to support her when her line came out so I went to Sephora the day after these products released to see what would catch my eye. I ended up getting two of the highlighters and the foundation because I am always a sucker for a good foundation. Let’s start with the overall line. I picked these three products because they’re the only ones that really caught my eye. I swatched the cream products and they were just swatching a bit dry so I definitely didn’t want to apply it on my eyes because I know it wouldn’t settle well at all. Alright let’s talk about the foundation. This is a huge hype because this is one line that caters more towards women of color which is awesome since the beauty community doesn’t concentrate on the darker shades. This line contains 40 shades of various undertones and has shades for the lightest of skin tones to the darkest of […]

Make up tips!

Leonard Engelman: Make-up Tips

ShareThis

Color can be separated into two categories.

1.) Skin Tone- Stays the same unless you become tanner or paler. Skin tone is enhanced by: Foundation, Base, Concealer, Powder, Shading or Contouring.

2.) Accessories- Change with your wardrobe and include: Eyeshadow, Mascara, Blush and Lip Color.

A commonly asked question is, “What color should I wear?” Color is an accessory. If you are wearing a red shirt, find something with a red tone. If you are wearing purple, you’ll wan t to find something with a mauve tone.

Which do I apply first, concealer or foundation?

Apply foundation and then concealer. By applying the foundation first, you see exactly where you still need more coverage. And as you apply the concealer, you will see if more or less is required.

How do I select the proper foundation shade for my skin?

The best place to test match your skin tone is on the chin and lower jaw area.  To test a color, apply a small amount of foundation and feather out the blend. If the shade isn’t quite right select the next shade up or down in tone. Expect that the foundation chosen in mid-summer may be too dark in mid-winter. The objective of foundation is to smooth and blend skin tone and color differences to a natural healthy look of natural skin. If it looks like a mask, (or feels that way) than too much has been applied. If you see no difference, you have applied too little. Remember foundation should help you look simply beautiful.

Sometimes I need a lot more coverage than my regular foundation can give me. What do you suggest I use?

When a great deal of coverage is needed in a specific area, don’t apply heavy foundation to compensate. Use a concealer which should be applied easier, faster and with better results.

How do I find the right concealer?

Forget all the rules on concealer: green covers red, yellow covers red and brown, orange covers blue. This doesn’t seem simple. Many companies have developed concealers that match the skin tone. They are formulated with a great deal of pigment so a thin application will actually conceal or hide the various undertones. This makes the choice and application much easier and the results flawless. Simply pick the shade that best matches the skin tone at the lower eyelid.

Application Tip: Apply concealer with a small brush. This way you can apply the product in the same exact size and shape necessary. If you use your finger, the size of the area you cover is dependent on the size of your finger.

Where can I apply concealer for the best coverage?

Under the eyes where discoloration is prominent. Between the inner eye and the nose often shows discoloration that can pinch the nose area, making one look tired, and can give the appearance of changing the eyelid shape. At the outer eye, where the upper and lower lid join, there is often a dark line of discoloration that draws down that can be concealed. You can also apply concealer to cover broken blood vessels and skin irregularities.

What is translucent powder used for?

Translucent powders are designed to “set” make-up. The powder absorbs the oil or moisture in the make-up to create a dry surface on the skin. Translucent powders should not add color to your make-up. (Powders that incorporate foundations are used for coverage as a foundation and are not recommended for setting make-up)

Application Tip: A powder puff or large brush may be used to apply the powder as well as brush away any excess.

I tend to crease under the eyes when I apply powder, what am I doing wrong?

You should smooth the area underneath the eyes before powdering to insure your application is flawless before setting. If you have applied concealer thinly under the eyes, you will avoid creases. Powder does not create a crease or accentuate lines-- thick make-up on the thin tissue under the eye does.

Various companies have perfected shading or contouring powders. These brush on easily with a blush brush and are almost fool-proof. If the shading is applied too heavy, you can minimize it with a little translucent powder.

I always hear about “shading” and “contouring” but what exactly are they used for?

Most make-up artists use shading or contouring to minimize fullness under the jaw area, emphasize the cheek bones, or give the appearance of narrowing the width of the nose.

How do I choose the perfect lip color?

Observe yourself but remember color is an accessory. What color is your wardrobe and what color are you currently wearing? Select three colors in the same range- light, medium and dark. Try on each color and pick the one you feel most comfortable wearing.

I could really use some lipstick tips -- any suggestions?

That depends on what you’re going for. For a natural lip look- cover the entire lip area with a pencil close to your lips natural shade. For intensified color- apply pencil over the entire lip area followed by a coordinating lipstick. For fuller lips- outline lips slightly outside the lip line and fill in with lipstick. In most cases you will want a pencil slightly darker than the lipstick. (Remember the lips have more color then the surrounding skin. Therefore the darker pencil is necessary to compensate). To correct uneven lips- Simply even the lips with the lip pencil and fill with lipstick. To minimize lipstick bleeding- Outline the lips with a broad line using a lip pencil. Powder the pencil line. Fill in the lips with lipstick, but carry the lipstick just up to the lip pencil. This helps set a barrier for the more emollient lipstick.

How do I know which shade of blush to wear?

Once the lipstick and lip pencil have been selected, simply choose a blush in the same color family.
