This has got to be the longest hiatus I’ve ever taken from my blog. I’ve got to admit, it’s a very slippery slope once you’ve stopped blogging for a while. In the beginning, I did feel this sort of rush from the thought of “OMG I haven’t blogged in over 3 weeks now!!!” It was cool […]

People’s opinion on Millennials

by Bjorn Vandemeulebroucke @ The Insiders

J.T. O’Donnell wrote a great article on people’s opinion on Millennials.  Pls see below some quotes: 1. From a GenXer: “Get to the point!” “The single best thing I’ve learned from Millennials: Get to the point. … They are direct and bold, sometimes even outright fearless. Shocked me at first, but they’re getting things done and […]

Clinique 3-Step Skin Care Review - intoeder

intoeder

updated notes [28 Jan 2017]: hi guys, since this post is still getting quite a bit of traffic, I thought I’d add in some additional notes. I’ve become more aware about skincare these days and based on all the things I’ve learnt… the Clinique 3-Step is not as “elegant” as good skincare should be. If you are just starting to cultivate a habit of a skincare routine – this is a good start. However, for better skin, I’d model the 3-Step system and replace them with products far superior (ingredients-wise and performance-wise) and at friendlier price points. A little more than a year ago, I was on the hunt for the perfect skin care regime: I needed something that was fuss-free and easy for me to keep up and stick with. I decided to try the Clinique 3-Step Skin Care System and more than a year on… I haven’t looked back since (well…). Needless to say, it revolutionised my skin care regime. (Fairly text-heavy post ahead…) Pre-Purchase Tips You should definitely ascertain your skin type either with the help of in-store Clinique consultants or, do as I did and take the super intuitive (and interactive) online consultation on their website. It’s incredibly …

Here are four tips for Marketers in educating their business on being open to negative content:

by Bjorn Vandemeulebroucke @ The Insiders

1. Negative content keeps it real. The mere presence of some negative content on a site creates trust in the brand. A site full of nothing but glowing content can make a customer skeptical. And how is that different to advertising? Allowing a mix of positive and negative content shows customers you’re willing to let […]

Vienna, Austria

by xlicious @ Xlicious Girl Blog

We arrived in Vienna on November 22, 2015 at 2:05pm. From the airport, we took a train to the city center. The printed ticket for the train system was high tech, using technology typically only seen on currency. During our train ride, I saw walls of tasteful graffiti and actual stand alone homes (unlike my […]

Outfit: How To Make Ruffles Look Cool

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

It’s that thing with ruffles: Either you like them. Or you don’t. There’s hardly anything in between. Me for my part, I belong to the group of ruffle lovers. Blame it on my mom for dressing me in cute dresses with ruffles when I was a baby, or blame it on my romantic side that sometimes wants to emerge from the underground. I simply love ruffles – at least until it comes to ironing them. Because that’s pretty much the worst thing to iron, but what can you do. Fashion knows no pain, right? The tricky thing with ruffles though, is that they make you look more childish and playful as you might wish. So you have to be carful how you style them, unless you want to go full on romantic and look like out of Netflix’s The Crown. The trick is to keep the rest of the outfit very simple and add some contrasts that break the look. In my case, I combined the super girly ruffle blouse with plain mom jeans and added a pair of eye catching shoes. Which are, by the way, my newest addition for fall (all fashionistas among us will probably notice an […]

Outfit: Airport Attire

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

While I was sitting at Frankfurt Airport on Monday night, waiting to board the plane back to Salzburg after an exciting day of meetings, I had to think of all the flights I took this year already. I love traveling and don’t mind flying at all. The feeling of being above the clouds and watching the world getting smaller the higher you go is one of my favorite things. Every time I see a plane in the sky I’m getting a bit excited and imagine where it might be going… The most exciting flight this year was definitely the one to Australia in March. Considering the fact that I started this journey with a boyfriend, and came back home with a fiancé probably tells its own tale. But even without this being said, our trip to Australia has been one of the best, if not even THE best trip of my life so far. There are still so many Australia photos I haven’t published yet, and so many stories and insights to tell, but I just never found the right time to sort them all (but I will, eventually. Promised.) However, thinking of Australia and the amazing time we had […]

What’s In My Makeup Bag? Summer 2017

Acids in Rotation

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

Earlier last week, I decided to go back to the drawing board and rework my skincare routine to fit in some of my new acid products as well as phase out those that (sadly) didn’t seem to do much. I’m also extremely wary of over-exfoliation — I’ve seen some seriously scary pics of the effects of over-exfoliating; it’s enough to make me think twice whenever I pick up a chemical exfoliant of any sort.   Acids in My Morning Skincare Routine I decided to keep my morning skincare routines fairly simple and keep it to only one acid – primarily, Vitamin C. Having recently done a little more research into Vitamin C for a project I was working on, I am even more certain that a Vit C serum *NEEDS* to be in my AM routine. [sidebar, if you don’t have a vit c serum in your morning routine, get in on it. stat] I’ll be alternating between the Paula’s Choice C15 and the Drunk Elephant C-Firma serum. Once a week, I’ll directly address congestion issues (typically on my nose, forehead and chin area) with the help of Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid. I won’t be slathering this all over my […]

Identifying My Wardrobe Staples

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

aka classic forever pieces… Taking a break from my current skincare obsession, I thought I’d momentarily shift the focus to building a new style wardrobe. While I was living in NZ, I managed to get a start with my winter capsule and I quite enjoyed the process of intentional curation. Since moving back to Singapore, I’ve been too busy with the other stuff to even begin to think about rebuilding a whole entire style wardrobe (getting married and setting up home can be a lot of work… who knew?). But now that we’ve got a handle on things, I think it’s the perfect time to get this project going. The first step to rebuilding a style wardrobe? Identifying your wardrobe staples. The keyword here: ‘your’. Sure, by all means take lessons from the countless “10 Wardrobe Staple Every Woman Should Own”-type articles… but it’s so important to alter any sartorial advice to fit your own style and personality. In almost every article*, you’ll find black pumps and ballerines… but they don’t feature on my list. Why? Because I *hate* wearing pumps and, apart from sneakers, I very rarely opt for covered-toe flats (wedges are my comfortable go-to). As with skincare, style isn’t a […]

Outfit: How to wear black from head to toe without looking boring

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

The alarm rings, you’re rushing into the bathroom to get ready, and then you’re standing in front of your closet (which is actually quite well filled) and you find absolutely nothing to wear. Your action plan: Combining black with black, because that’s always a safe option. Been there, done that? Welcome to the club! You might think someone who’s job it is to write about outfits and fashion might be a bit more creative when it comes to choosing clothes in the morning. Well, here’s the truth: I’m not. I usually show you one to two outfits per week here on the blog, which of course doesn’t mean I don’t “dress up” all the other days of the week. But there are certainly days on which I’m standing in front of my drawers cluelessly and go back to my all black uniform. Especially on normal office days this is my go to style. Over the years, I’m proud to say I’ve mastered the art of combining black with black, and I’ve learned some lessons during that time. So here are my five rules for wearing black from head to toe: 1. Textures make the difference: Make sure you’re mixing different […]

My Current Cleanser Rotation

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

Quick one today as I share my current cleanser rotation. At the moment, I have three in rotation. Which I concede, may seem like quite a lot in the regular world. But in girl skincare junkie world, three is the minimum number of options for a morning cleanse. 1. Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm I use this for my evening cleanse – when I’m doing just a single cleanse, or when skin needs major TLC (massaging this in for three minutes and leaving as a mask for 15 more is so incredible). Typically, balm cleansers would be the perfect way to remove makeup and break down SPF. However, this one is too expensive and way too good to be wasted on makeup removal. Trust me, you’ll want this goodness on bare skin. {i’ve raved about this one before: here} (p.s: i’ve been quite slack with double cleansing — only doing so when i have makeup on. i’ve just found out that if you use spf – you *need* to double cleanse. thanks caroline) 2. Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel For my morning cleanse. My first gel cleanser ever! I really enjoy the consistency and how it felt on my skin – doesn’t flannel off […]

A Peek Into The Cult Beauty Spring Goody Bag!

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

Hi guys! A very quick one today as I’m super busy with work at the moment which is really a good thing, actually! The way i’ve been spending money — on skincare, naturally — scares the living daylights out of me (and my poor bank account). I recently did a little haul on Cult Beauty when they ran their amaahzing Cult Beauty Spring Goody Bag offer. The Goody Bag is a recurring Gift-With-Purchase that CB offers a few times a year, typically timed to coincide with the start of a new season. The Goody Bag (although not always an actual “bag”) is filled with a whole handful of deluxe sample sized products and a few full-sized gems as well! My first purchase with Cult Beauty was during the Best of 2016 Goody Bag offer and it had a full-size of May Lindstrom’s Youth Dew (£96). I thought this year’s Cult Beauty Spring Goody Bag (with a value of over £210!) deserved a whole post dedicated to its fabulousness; but I’ll just share what I’m most excited to try: 1. Hannes Dóttir Seamasque* (10ml) A miracle mask that is formulated with Icelandic marine extracts, spearmint and alum crystal that helps to revitalise […]

Outfit: Favorites for Fall

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

When walking Maxi in the mornings, it feels like fall already. Leaves are starting to fall and the air is getting really fresh… So I guess it’s time to get our wardrobe autumn ready! I have this silent agreement with myself, that I won’t splurge on too many new clothes for fall until we know if we’re finally moving, or not. The thought of moving (again!) slightly bothers me already. Packing everything up, schlepping boxes… you know the drill! So the less I need to pack, the better. That’s also one of the reasons why I’ll be getting rid off a lot of my belongings soon (stay tuned for more infos!). But back to fall essentials: When Högl reached out to me and asked whether I’d like to pick my favorite shoe for fall and write a little story for their blog about it, I just couldn’t resist. The perfect dark berry red, the softest suede leather, and fancy pearls that give the sneakers just the right edge? It goes without saying that I was sold the minute I saw them. Combined with my favorite pleated skirt and a simple white shirt, this combo is going to me one of […]

Skincare 101: The Basic Skincare Routine

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

for when you’re first starting out or — if you’re me — when you gone f****d your face… If you follow me on Instagram, you’d know that a few weeks back, I overdid it with the acids. Two words to succinctly sum it up: holy breakout! Needless to say, it did its job and forced me to tread *extra* cautiously with acids. So, to counteract my overzealousness with acids, I took a gentle approach with my skincare routine by paring it all the way back. Most days, I simply opted for the basic skincare routine that consisted of: cleanser + toner + moisturiser. Easy.  This is of course modelled after the Clinique 3-Step Skincare System (i know, i know, save your eye rolls). Funny story: the Clinique 3-Step served as the foundation blocks of my skincare routine way back in the day when I first started taking care of my skin. I’ve come a long way since then; I know now how crap those products were, but I still feel a nostalgic pang whenever I see it. Hey, everyone’s gotta start somewhere… The 3-step skincare routine seems old-fashioned in this day and age when everyone is enamoured by the Korean 17-step […]

Clarins Supra Volume: The Best Brown Mascara?

by Ruth Crilly @ A Model Recommends

I’m partial to a bit of brown mascara for daytime makeup looks; often jet-black can look a little bold and stark, especially if I’m trying to keep things low-key. Wishlist – Skincare Edition

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

Today’s post is inline with the #JanuarySkinChallenge Day 27 (!!!) prompt: Wishlist. I had so much fun putting together my *dream* skincare wishlist and I may have gone a touch overboard. Just a tiny touch. In all honesty, I’m quite proud of myself for narrowing it down to just ten items. It’s the little things y’all… Anyway let’s crack on with the list, shall we? Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 (AU$85/SG$92): Since I discovered Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons, I knew I needed this in my life. Caroline touts it as the “Rolls Royce of acid toners”. Need I say more? But (of course), problem: due to some law in Singapore which prohibits the sale of products below a certain pH-level, only the P50t version is available for sale here. Never heard of P50t? Me either. After doing some digging around reddit and the BR Facebook page however, I gathered that the P50t is a special (read: weaker) formulation concocted for countries that have strict pH-laws as Singapore does. For your info, they’re selling the P50t here for SG$115 (150ml). I’m still holding out for the phenol-free P50 and I may be very very close to procuring one, so fingers crossed! Sunday Riley Good Genes (£70.83/SG$127): An all-in-one […]

Brand Spotlight: Jordan Samuel Skin

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

I feel so smug whenever I use Jordan Samuel Skin in my skincare routines. Only because I feel like I’m part of a super-exclusive club that’s in on the skincare industry’s best kept secret. This stuff is magic. It’s crazy that it’s not bigger than it currently is right now… Like why isn’t EVERYONE using this???? Don’t get me wrong, Jordan Samuel is a well-respected (and well-known) name, especially amongst the skincare community on instagram. His stuff sells out, and people stock up on his products by the bulk. But when I googled for reviews prior to purchasing, I did not find reviews from people outside of the IG skincare community. Not like that’s a bad thing of course, he is after all relatively new on the market — having launched his eponymous line in 2013. The word is (well-deservedly) getting out though. Very recently, a beauty editor mentioned his products which promptly led to Plié being sold out! Y-E-S!! About Jordan Samuel Skin There’s so many reasons why I love the man himself — and yes, it goes beyond our shared love for prosecco. His approach to skincare is beautiful. Wishlist: Hello September

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

And just like that, it’s September! As much as I love summer and hot temperatures, I also like fall a lot. Nature is glowing one last time before winter is coming – the falling leaves and the changing colors of the trees always remind me of the time when I had to go back to school after the big summer holidays. So to me September always feels like the start of a new year. Of course it also means I get to wear all my favorite jackets, boots and knits again, which is a very welcome change too. Recipe: Vegan Chocolate Cake without Compromises

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

When it comes to cake, I’m quite easily satisfied: Lots of chocolate, moist, and preferably with a side of berries – those are the attributes of the cake of my dreams. When you’re lactose intolerant like me though, this cake might sound like a challenge. But not anymore! Although I’m not vegan, I love the fact that there are so many amazing recipes and substitutes for animal products emerging. On the hunt for a chocolate cake recipe without milk or butter, I found this super easy recipe for chocolate cake.  No diary, and no eggs in it. You could never tell that it’s eggless, and the best part is it stays moist even after 3 or 4 days. And let me tell you: It’s one of the best and juiciest chocolate cakes I’ve ever had! Plus, it’s whipped together very quickly and you don’t need to be a heroine in the kitchen to make it happen. No fuss, no mess. Inspired by the slogan of Teekanne FRESH – “Not up for compromises!” (deutsch: Kein Bock auf Kompromisse!”), I thought I’d make my own birthday cake this year without any lactose. Usually, my family or friends would always surprise me with cake, […]

Hugo Boss Jour Pour Femme Eau de Parfum Review

by Garima @ Makeupandbeauty.com

I’m fresh out of my Ralph Lauren Romance and would like to try something new. So, in my quest for a new scent I sampled a ton of scents at a perfume store. Although it is difficult to choose from the extensive selection of little luxuries, you should definitely take home a graceful bottle that […]

New In: Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Review

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

first impressions of this game-changing acid treatment My first foray with acid toners was with the Pixi Glow Tonic — I’ve got both the deluxe sample (from the Cult Beauty goody bag) and a full-size one (which in hindsight, I may have prematurely and naively bought before I made up my mind about it). The Glow Tonic is, at best, inoffensive to me… but it didn’t give me the results I was expecting. I gave it time but I never got the glow mentioned in rave reviews. It is however, the perfect segue to stronger acids. But, I digress. This isn’t about the Pixi Glow Tonic — I’ll save it for another day. No, this is about the acid toner that made me saw the light with the GT: it’s all about these Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Formula. I probably should have gone with the Original formula ones but of course, me being me, I just had to go for the Extra Strength ones. (Disclaimer: I feel like I should mention once again, that my skin is the non-reactive sort. Always tread carefully with acids.) Dr Dennis Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Review What It Is: A 2-step anti-aging peel that addresses common […]

Lessons from #NoBuyFebruary

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

You guys… I did it! And yep, I am as every bit surprised as you are. Today’s the last day of the No-Buy and by a miracle, I survived. (can you tell i’m one for the dramatics?) In case you missed it, I decided to join in on the #NoBuyFebruary challenge together with a few brave skincare junkies. The rule is simple (on paper, at least): no skincare purchases for the entire month. I ended up not purchasing anything else (not even clothes!) apart from daily necessities, of course. Not having done this before, it was actually a lot harder than I had anticipated, but here’s what I took away from the no-buy experience. Keeping Myself in Check Being on the No-Buy made me hyper-aware of my consumerist/shopaholic tendencies. Seriously, I never realised how easy it was for me to part with my money… on things I don’t even necessarily need. You wouldn’t believe the number of times I caught myself almost giving up on the No-Buy and clicking through to check out, before I snapped out of it. (honestly, it did feel that dramatic lol) And this happened across countless online stores (Integrity Botanicals, Cult Beauty (why of course), Jordan Samuel […]

Sunday Tittle Tattle: What Have I Become?

by Ruth Crilly @ A Model Recommends

I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching recently. Things have been hectic and somewhat stressful in the AMR household and I have been forced to meditate upon profound personal questions. (See photograph above for a visual indication of what I look like when I ask myself profound personal questions.) Who am I? What am I?…

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner Midnight Cowboy Review

Hello ladies, This review is just in time for the festive season – an actual glitter product 😛 This by the way, was my first tryst with an actual glitter product. I have never been drawn to glitter, maybe because till now it didn’t gel with my makeup aesthetics. Also, I didn’t feel it made […]

Beauty: Armani Ecstasy Shine – 24 hours in Paris with Giorgio Armani

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

This year, I’ve been to Paris twice already, and both times it was for super happy reasons: I remember the day I flew to Paris with Armani Beauty like yesterday, although it’s already two months ago. For the launch of their new innovative lipcream, Giorgio Armani Beauty invited me to Paris to discover the new Ecstasy Shine lipstick range first hand. In the most beautiful setting of Paris 4th arrondissement, Armani pulled out all the stops to introduce bloggers from all around the world to their new masterpiece. Different stations at the venue were build up to explore all details of the Ecstasy Shine lipstick: In a photo booth filled with balloons we were able to take funny selfies and little videos, in a dark room a professional video crew took a short 3D video of us, and of course Armani make up artists made sure we looked pretty and our lips were center of attention thanks to Ecstasy Shine. Ecstasy Shine is not “just another lipstick”, but it’s fully packed with an innovative formula, that makes it twice as soft as a traditional lipstick. The innovative alternation of heating and cooling phases leads to a soft, lightweight texture with radiant mirror shine and enhances […]

Deep Relax: Nothing Compares 2U

by Ruth Crilly @ A Model Recommends

I’ve tried a lot of these “relaxing” bath oils now  – mainly due to the fact that I seem to live in a permanent state of self-induced life-stress – and I can tell you that the Deep Relax from Aromatherapy Associates is one of the very best. I seem have two functional modes: completely hyper, highly strung, sort…

Sunday Tittle Tattle: Why The House Move?

by Ruth Crilly @ A Model Recommends

We’ve moved house. Actually, we’ve more than moved house; we’ve moved halfway across the country, to the beautiful city of Bath. There’s a long-ish story behind this perhaps rather surprising turn of events, but I’ll precis it for you, because it’s an arduous and very boring tale. I know many people were slightly bemused that…

Lifestyle: The basic rules of beautiful skin

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

There are a lot of things I miss about being a teenager: Endless summer holidays, having a mom around who does all my laundry, a fridge that’s always full (also thanks to my mom) and all those emotions and dramas that felt so big back then. But there’s definitely one thing I don’t miss at all, which currently seems to haunt me down in my adulthood (I’m turning 27 next month!). And that’s acne. Because let’s face it: I don’t really have an excuse to have bad skin. By now, I know which foods to avoid (hello lactose intolerance!), I know it’s essential to clean my face before going to bed, I have access to the best skin care products, and I’m taking a combined oral contraceptive pill that’s supposed to help against impurities. And still, I’m experiencing breakouts. Hence – no excuses, right? All of these things mentioned above keep my skin mostly under control, but I still have to deal with more impurities, pimples and cysts than I’m cool with. They are mostly on my cheeks and despite being very annoying and not cute at all, they also hurt very much. I feel like I’m too old for […]

Skincare Diary #2

by Shaqinah F @ intoeder

Hi guys, I’m back again with yet another skincare post. Oops? I was planning to get this up on Sunday but I had my hands full with the very sickly patient that is my husband. Oh don’t worry, it’s nothing critical. Just the deadly man flu. Yes, it was a truly trying time in the Eder household *rolls eyes* On to skincare updates — I am finally done with my skincare routine revamp. Yay me! It took a hella research (and quite a bit of money) but so far, it’s all proving to be worth it. It did seem a little overwhelming having to start from scratch and phasing out all the crap products I’ve had before. But it was so much fun! I plan to do an assessment of my skincare routine every three months to see what’s working and what’s not. For now though, I think I have a good enough routine that will help address some of my skin’s issues + concerns. I’m also a little concerned about over-exfoliating, especially now that I have a whole host of acids to “play around with”. I’ve seen some really scary photos on reddit!! Some new skincare products since the last diary entry: Paula’s […]

Beauty: You Rock My Life x Essie Blogger Collection

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

I wish you could feel my excitement while I’m writing this… I’m finally allowed to tell you what I’ve been keeping a secret since summer: Essie reached out to me a couple of months ago and asked if I’d like to collaborate with them and have my own little collection of nail polishes. First I couldn’t even believe it, and of course my answer was YES! I’ve been a huge fan of Essie nailpolishes for ages and have been collecting them ever since. I’m proud to call a whole shoe box full of Essie polishes my own, which I’ve been collecting over the years. During this time a few of the polishes became my absolute favorites, and exactly those six colors are part of the You Rock My Life x Essie Blogger Collection.  Let me introduces you to my favorite Essie colors: Sugar Daddy It’s my go-to color whenever I feel like wanting plain nails. Fun fact: I cannot look at my nails when they have no polish on. I feel totally naked and always need at least some base coat on them. Sugar Daddy is a transparent hue of pink which gives your nails a healthy and subtle glow. […]

Beauty: Bioré – Baking Soda For Your Skin

by Nina Wro @ You rock my life

Baking Soda for your skin? First, that might sound a bit odd. But if you do a little research about baking soda, its effects and what it’s usually used for, it all makes perfect sense: Sodium bicarbonate, the “official” term for baking soda, is a natural substance that is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. This alkaline substance has antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also a powerful medical tool effective at combating skin issues: It helps regulate you skin’s pH and it has a gentle abrasive ability to help scrub. If you’ve been reading my blog for a little while, you probably know that I’ve had some issues with my skin and even consulted a dermatologist to have it checked. Of course, I’ve been super eager to try everything that could help improving the appearance of my skin. So when I heard about Bioré and the effect it claims to have on the skin, I was really excited to try it out. I’ve been using the Bioré baking soda scrub and also the Bioré baking soda pore cleanser for two weeks now, and I can say that I definitely see an improvement in my skin. Whereas the pore […]
